Thu 20 Oct 2011
The Mayor of Ealing, Councillor John Gallagher, will be switching on Southall’s festive lights on Monday at 6pm.

The ceremony will take place outside Southall Town Hall , High Street, Southall with an address by the Mayor.

It will be followed by a live performance by dhol musicians as the lights are switched on along Southall Broadway, South Road and The Green.

The lights represent a number of festivals being celebrated by local residents including Diwali, Eid, Christmas and New Year.

This year's Diwali is on Wednesday 26 October 2011.
Eid will be probably on Sunday 6 November 2011.

Councillor Julian Bell, Leader of Ealing Council, said: "The switching on of the lights is a milestone in the year; it signifies the end of the summer as well as the beginning of a great time of celebration and festivities for Southall’s communities.2

"The colourful lights help create a festival atmosphere into the evenings for visitors, shoppers and diners to enjoy throughout the winter."
