More Southall traders get grilled in court

Sun 23 Oct 2011
Two more local food businesses have been fined thousands after an investigation into late night food operators.

Naralla Enterprises Ltd, operating as Chicken Cottage, 64 South Road , Southall, was fined £1,700 and was ordered to pay costs of £1,000.

It pleaded guilty to two licensing offences of selling food outside of permitted trading hours and five business waste offences at Ealing Magistrates.

The business was prosecuted after Ealing Council’s licensing officers purchased two portions of chips on separate occasions after 3am, when the shop was meant to be closed to customers.

Mr Wahid, the manager of The Griller Express Ltd, 96, The Green, Southall, was fined £300 and ordered him to pay costs of £500. He pleaded guilty to two licensing offences of selling food outside of the permitted trading hours.

The business was prosecuted after Ealing Council’s licensing officers purchased a quarter pounder burger and a meal of chicken and chips on separate occasions after 11pm, when the shop was meant to be closed to customers.

Councillor Ranjit Dheer, cabinet member for community services and safety, said: "The businesses simply should not have been selling food at those times."

"It’s unfair to other businesses if some take it upon themselves to stay open later than they’re allowed. The licensing conditions are set out to protect residents and the impact on the environment."

"We would urge residents with concerns about traders staying open later then they should to contact our licensing team immediately so we can investigate."
