Sat 03 Dec 2011The official opening ceremony of this temporary car park took place on Tuesday 29th November at 10 am with the Mayor of Ealing John Gallagher cutting the ribbon in front of local councillors and business leaders.
Southall Broadway ward councillor, Mohammed Kauser had been looking forward to this day for a long time.
The President of the Southall Traders Association, Buljinder Takhar, said that Southall getting a proper car park felt like a dream.
Councillor Julian Bell and MP Virendra Sharma were present for the opening. The car park was open to the public a few days later.
The car park has 53 cars spaces including four disabled bays. It will be in operation for at least six months while the council investigates other options for creating additional parking in the area. It is open daily from 8 am – 6 pm.
Weekend parking will be free in December at Hambrough Road, but at other times customers will only be able to pay-by-phone for parking at this location. It costs £1.50 per hour.
To use the system, motorists need to register their details with PayByPhone online or by calling 0208 127 0999, and then they can use their mobile phone to pay for parking. The parking fees will be charged to their registered credit or debit card.
To help you to shop locally and support local businesses, Ealing Council is offering free weekend parking at most council car parks in December.
The generous offer will allow shoppers to shop, eat and drink locally on weekends in the run up to Christmas without paying a penny for parking. Council Leader, Councillor Julian Bell, said: "I hope many residents will take advantage of this generous offer in December which I’m pleased to announce includes the brand new temporary car park in Southall."
