Traffic measures for EID-UL-FITR in Southall
Sat 18 Aug 2012Whether the Muslim festival of Eid-ul-Fitr will be celebrated on Sunday or Monday depended on the sighting of the crescent moon.
If a crescent moon was visible today in the UK, then Eid-ul-Fitr would be on Sunday. No crescent moon will be visible in the UK.
If no crescent moon is visible in the UK, it is acceptable to follow sightings in neighbouring countries like Morocco or Saudi Arabia or any where else.
There have been many sighting of the moon crescent in South Africa and surrounding countries and therfore all mosques in Southall will be celebrating Edid-ul-Fitr tomorrow (Sunday).
The mosques will be overflowing with worshippers in the morning, with 4 services at each mosque starting as early as 6:30 am.
In the evening traffic restrictions may be in force in Southall to tackle any anti-social behaviour.
Driving into Southall should be avoided as traffic exclusion zones may be in place in the evening. Even residents will have to carry some form of identity or other document to be allowed into the zone.
The Eid prayer times are:
Jamia Masjid, Townsend Road - 7:00, 8:15, 9:15 and 10:30 am
Abubakr mosque, The Broadway - 6:30, 7:30, 8:30 and 10:00 am
Central Jamia Masjid, Montague Waye - 6:30, 7:30, 8:30 and 9:30 am
Local Police Officers will ensure that those people who are celebrating can do so safely, peacefully and without unwelcome disturbances, whilst at the same time minimising the disruption caused to other communities, residents, businesses and transport systems.
If you are intending to observe the occasion at a restaurant in Southall, you may need to "bring details of your booking" if you are using your own car.
