Noisy neigbour is silenced

Wed 05 Sep 2012
A noisy Southall resident has been ordered to pay more than £2500 following an investigation by Ealing Council.

Abdul Turay, of Havelock Road, Southall, pleaded guilty to two charges relating to excessive noise at Ealing Magistrates Court on 21 August 2012.

Ealing Council’s noise nuisance officers were called to Mr Turay’s property on a number of occasions, where they witnessed very loud music coming from his home. After Mr Turay ignored a number of verbal and written warnings, he was issued with a noise abatement notice.

When he went on to breach the notice on 23 December 2011 and 10 March 2012, officers returned to the property to seize 18 pieces of equipment, including speakers and stereos.

In court, Mr Turay was fined £190 for the first breach and £245 for the second breach. He was ordered to pay a further £2,088.76 in prosecution costs and two victim surcharges of £15 each, totalling £2553.76. Mr Turay was also ordered to forfeit the 18 items seized by the council.

Councillor Ranjit Dheer, cabinet member for community services and safety, said: "Noisy neighbours are a terrible nuisance for residents and we take complaints very seriously."

"This is another success for the team and I hope it makes residents think twice before making a racket that may disturb their neighbours."
