Unity of Faith Festival
Mon 30 Sep 2013The festival had its debut on the 11th June 2011 and was attended by over 8,000 people.
The festival took place between 1 and 6 pm in Southall Park, Southall. During this time, there was a variety of different offerings on the large stage ranging from meditation, singing and dancing to karate demonstrations.
Karate Instructor Onkar Singh Ghatore, who was awarded the OBE in 2004 for "services to the community in Southall, London" brought some of his pupils to demonstrate their skills on stage. The instructor at the "Southall self defence club" has taught over 8 thousand students worldwide.
The multi-faith religious leader all came onto the stage at around 3 pm. Eight of them, representing different faith, spoke briefly on stage. Some had come from India and China.
The first speaker came from the golden Temple in Amritsar, Punjab, India, the central place of worship for all Sikhs in the world.
Rev Derek Barnes of the Church of England said "We are here because we know and love each other. I am always learning something new from my brothers (of others faiths)."
They faith leaders ended their session by holding each other’s hands and raising them to show their unity.
This was followed by more stage entertainment. The second batch of dignitaries, non-religious leaders, came on stage later.
There were long queues for the free food and drink available.
