Free performances in Walpole Park

Mon 18 Nov 2013
A saxophonist, an urban pop singer and a poet will perform in Walpole Park on Saturday, 23 November 2013, from 2pm to 4pm.

The Park Sounds event will see the three artists present their own musical creations inspired by Walpole Park’s rich heritage and leafy surrounds.

The performers will pop-up in locations throughout the park and cover a range of musical styles, all complimenting the park’s natural setting.

Internationally acclaimed and self-taught saxophonist, Lascelles James, will delight visitors with his diverse sound and versatility which covers jazz, reggae, soul and pop.

While London based singer-songwriter, Charly Mae, will bring the park alive with acoustic urban beats and powerful vocals.

Award-winning veteran poet, Amarjit Chandan, will perform original poetry accompanied by Bhangra musicians.

Councillor Julian Bell, leader of Ealing Council, said: "Walpole Park has long been a source of inspiration for all types of artists, including former Pitzhanger Manor resident and architect, Sir John Soane."

"It is fantastic that the Park Sounds event will showcase – for the first time ever – three very different interpretations of the park through music and poetry, and I encourage all local people to come along and experience everything this unique event has to offer."

In the case of wet weather, the performances will take place in Pitzhanger Manor from 3.30pm.

Park Sounds is funded through the Heritage Lottery Fund’s (HLF) Parks for People grant, which is also funding a major restoration of the park and its heritage features.

While the work is taking place, people can access the park from the Culmington Lane and Lammas Park entrances, as well as via West London College on The Green.
