A student at Featherstone High School in Southall, Tejas Dattani, has been elected as Ealing’s sixth youth mayor.

The deputy youth mayor is James Panton from the Acton campus of Ealing, Hammersmith and West London College.

During his election campaign, Tejas pledged to improve homelessness among young people, create an accessible work experience database and raise awareness of Ealing’s youth centres.

There were 10 other candidates who took part during a two-week campaign. They visited schools, youth centres, projects and special schools to rally support and persuade youngsters to vote for them. More than 2000 young people from across the borough went to polling booths or voted online for their chosen candidate.

Tejas said: "I am honestly over the moon to be the new youth mayor of Ealing. Thank you so much to everyone who voted, campaigned and supported me. I really couldn’t have done it without you. I look forward to taking my manifesto points forward and working to make a change for young people across Ealing."

David Archibald, executive director for children and adults, said: "I would like to congratulate all of the candidates on a well fought campaign. We take the role of youth mayor very seriously in Ealing and I am looking forward to working closely with Tejas in the year to come and in helping him to fulfil his manifesto promises."
