New homes in Southall, Greenford and Northolt a step closer

Thu 19 Jun 2014
The construction of new homes in Southall, Greenford and Northolt moved a step closer after Ealing Council decided which firms would build them.

Berkeley Construct Ltd was awarded the tender for the construction of the Southall building project last month. Construction firm Sandwood Design & Build were confirmed as the successful contractors for the Greenford and Northolt projects.

More than £4 million has been allocated across the three projects by Ealing Council, with the Greater London Authority contributing over £450,000 in grants.

The Southall homes include three three-bedroom houses and five four-bedroom houses which are being built on the site of the old Disraeli Nursery, which was closed and demolished several years ago.

Two of the houses will be sold to cover construction costs of the remaining six homes, which will be kept for council tenants.

Currently the site is being used as a temporary car park in Hambrough Road.

The homes in Greenford are divided into three one-bedroom and three two-bedroom flats, and will be located on the site of former council bedsits on Allenby Road that are being demolished.

The homes in Northolt will all be three-bedroom family houses to be constructed in Wincanton Crescent on the northern edge of the borough.

The projects is part of the council’s New Build programme to build more than 300 new properties by the end of 2016.

Cabinet member for housing, Councillor Jasbir Anand said: "With the increasingly overheated London housing market a constant challenge, the council’s New Build programme is working to provide much needed additional homes to local residents."

"The new buildings provide residents with high quality, spacious new homes that include sustainable timber frame construction designed to dramatically reduce energy and water use."

It is expected that construction works will begin very shortly on the Greenford, Northolt and Southall projects and will have fully concluded in spring next year.
