Licence revoked for local nightclub

Wed 25 Jun 2014
A nightclub with a history of violent crime in Southall has had their trading licence removed following police concerns for public safety.

Ealing Council’s Licensing Sub-Committee decided on Friday, 13 June to revoke the licence of The Tudor Rose at 68 The Green in Southall. The license was initially suspended on an interim basis in late May 2014.

The venue cannot open, but there is a possibility they may further appeal the decision through higher courts.

Police initiated an application to close The Tudor Rose in response to a number of incidents involving violent crime and disorder as well as constant breaches of the premises licence in mid-May. At one stage the club was asked to voluntarily close by police officers who had received warning of a planned firebomb attack.

The police also responded to numerous reports of fighting, knife crime, drug dealing and general disorderly behaviour. At least two men were stabbed multiple times in the vicinity of the nightclub on a single weekend as well as hundreds of recorded breaches of last entry/re-entry requirements.

Other problems included a long history of serious assaults being committed at or near the venue, including stabbings, glassings, firearms incidents and physical assaults.

Councillor Ranjit Dheer, cabinet member for community services and safety said: "While the council and the police work hard to assist businesses improve their performance before we consider harsher measures, at some point enough is enough."

"The constant stream of violent and illegal incidents , not to mention the regular licence breaches, meant there was no option other than to revoke their licences."
