Save money with the Big Energy Switch auction
Sun 04 Sep 2016
The auction has two functions: it brings together many residents so that their collective buying power can secure them the best deals on their fuel bills, and at the same time energy suppliers are invited to bid against each other to offer the best deals.
Since the first auction in 2013 Ealing Council has encouraged residents to sign up to the Big London Energy Switch. In the last four auctions, those who have registered and subsequently switched energy suppliers have saved £240 on average.
The bill payer, including tenants and residents on pre-pay meters, can register their interest. Registration is free and people can register until Monday, 10 October 2016.
The winning supplier will be the one that offered the best deals overall at the end of the auction. From Friday, 21 October onwards everyone who registered will be contacted by the winning supplier with an offer based on their own personal energy use.
When the offer is made there is no obligation to accept, but if residents decide to accept they will need to contact Big London Energy Switch by Tuesday, 29 November 2016 and they will take care of the entire switch process.
Councillor Jasbir Anand, cabinet member for housing, said: "The Big London Energy Switch is a great opportunity for anyone thinking about switching energy suppliers to get the best offers available. It is quick and easy to register and it’s possible to save hundreds of pounds."
"We’re proud to be associated with this very successful scheme and I urge everyone who wants to save money on their fuel bills to register now."
